Application Process

Print, carefully review, and complete all required forms for application submission, utilizing the current Application Checklist as a guide for preparing your supporting documents.

NOTE: Incomplete forms, forms from previous cycles, or incorrectly completed forms, will cause an application to be deemed incomplete and the applicant INELIGIBLE to proceed in the current cycle.

Click on “Login” (red button, upper right of screen) to go to the online application portal.  The first time an applicant visits the portal, they select ‘Register’ and submit their name, email, and create a password. They will be assigned an AIMG ID number.

Once an applicant’s registration is confirmed, they can sign in and add or update information in their profile. First, complete the “Your Profile”  page. Once the profile is complete, the “Supporting Documents” page will be available for supporting document upload based on the residence in Alberta option indicated in the profile. Mandatory fields will be denoted by a red asterisk (*).

All documents will be auto-submitted at the close of the online application cycle.

• Using the current Cycle Application Checklist as a guide, assemble required forms and supporting documents.
• Complete documents as requested, observing document notarization timelines.
• Once your Profile and Supporting Documents are complete, they will be auto-submitted at the close of the application cycle.
• Share required documents.

NOTE:  Applications containing documents not properly completed, not uploaded, improperly executed (i.e., must be in PDF or JPEG format, not in any editable format), missing attachments, and/or not shared, will be deemed INCOMPLETE.

Pay the CAD$350 application fee, plus applicable processing fees, online via Moneris Go. The AIMG Program will contact applicants via email for payment submission.

All applicants to the AIMG Program are required to pay the NON-REFUNDABLE application fee. This fee covers the processing of an application and supporting documents. Payment must be received by the Main Supporting Documents deadline. Applicants must remit the required application fee to be ELIGIBLE to proceed in the current cycle.  NO exceptions will be permitted.

NOTE: This fee does not qualify as tuition. No T2202A will be issued.

NOTE: Applicants who cannot pay the application fee online are required to apply for an Administrative Exception to pay their application fee via bank draft/money order PAYABLE TO the University of Calgary in the amount of CAD$350.

• The full fee is due and must be sent to the AIMG Program office as a single payment. Confirmation of receipt of the application fee is not given so all applicants must send via traceable courier (Purolator/Fedex/Canada Post) to ensure delivery status. 
• Applicant’s name and AIMG Program ID# must be written on the front of the money order/bank draft prior to mailing.
• Applicants are required to upload a copy of their application fee tracking receipt to the ‘Your Supporting Documents’ page. The AIMG Program will not be responsible for tracking lost or unidentifiable payments.

• The fee is only payable with a Canadian bank draft or money order made payable to the University of Calgary in Canadian currency.
• Personal cheques are NOT accepted.
• No receipts will be issued. It is the applicant’s responsibility to retain copies before submitting the fee.

All applicants must share their profile and all required documents via PhysiciansApply.ca, with the  AIMG Program, by the deadline(s). These must remain shared until CaRMS Match Day.

For all approved English Language Proficiency (ELP) tests, applicants must designate the AIMG  Program as the organization authorized to access their results.

NOTE: PhysiciansApply profiles must be shared with the AIMG Program by the main supporting documents submission deadline.

All online applications and corresponding supporting documents will be reviewed by the AIMG Program File Review Committee (FRC) for completeness and demonstration of the eligibility requirements. Failure to meet the requirements outlined will result in the application being rejected in its entirety.

NOTE: The AIMG Program FRC determines eligibility to continue in the assessment process. Refer to How it Works and Important Dates and Deadlines.  Decisions of the FRC are final. No appeals will be considered.

When CaRMS Online opens, applicants must register for CaRMS and follow the instructions provided. Only eligible and eligible pending candidates can proceed to apply for available IMG-designated residency positions in Alberta through CaRMS for the R-1 Main Residency Match. Please note that candidates who are eligible pending the fulfillment of certain requirements, must meet those requirements in order to remain eligible to participate in the CaRMS match.  Please note that CaRMS will not receive the AIMG Program’s list of eligible Candidates until after the
Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI), late-November. Candidates will not be able to apply to Alberta
positions until that time.
